Training For Toughmudder

How tough is Toughmudder?

It all depends on how fit you are and how quickly you want to finish; it's a 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course so you tell me, what's your fitness like?

I mean, it's billed as the world's toughest obstacle course and you have to sign a 'death waiver' before taking part, but if I'm being honest it's not all that bad.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's almost like an adult sports day, it's a bit of fun, a day out with your mates or a team building exercise you'd do with work colleagues.

Go with the mindset of having a fun day out doing something a little outside your comfort zone and you'll have a good time.

That being said, if you want the whole experience to be that bit more enjoyable I'd recommend training for it (like a boxer would a fight) and arriving on the day in sort of shape.

I've now trained a fair few people (normally in groups or teams of 4-8) wanting to get fit for a Tough Mudder and it's all very easily done.

Get a good base in terms of your running, preferably over different terrains as well as up and down hills; get your strength up, and get used to pushing yourself both mentally and physically in all aspects of your training!

Not sure where to get started?

Don't worry, I've written up some workouts for you to try out.

Give these a go and let me know how you get on. If you like them; share them with your mates. If you've got any questions; don't hesitate to get in touch.

These workouts should be somewhat challenging and give you an idea of the kind of stuff you'll need to do in order to prepare your body for the challenges of a Toughmudder event.

If you'd like me to put together a more specific (4, 8, or 12 week) training program, tailored to your wants and needs, then by all means drop me an email and we'll see about sorting something together.
